You Can DIE From Drinking Too Much Water — Here's What You Need To Know

We all know we’re supposed to drink lots of water when we’re sick.

What we don’t hear about are the negative effects that too much water can have on our systems. When a 59-year-old woman in the United Kingdom developed a urinary tract infection, she was told to drink a lot of water. She did as she was told…and she almost died as a result. Now, her doctors are sharing everything you need to know about consuming water so that you don’t wind up in the hospital.

The woman was diagnosed with acute hyponatremia, which is caused by low sodium levels in the blood.

It can be brought on by drinking too much water too quickly, and its symptoms are nausea, vomiting, and headaches. People who take MDMA or perform in endurance sports are at higher risk.

In the most serious cases, the brain can swell, and seizures, coma, and death may occur.

Nearly 30% of patients with incredibly low sodium levels have died.

Doctors saved the woman’s life by controlling her fluids for 24 hours.

While they said that staying hydrated is important, they added, “There is a paucity of evidence behind the advice to ‘drink plenty of fluids’ in the management of mild infective illness.”
