Imagine not being able to hug, touch, or even speak to your loved ones for over 13 years.
That’s exactly what’s happening to some families as strict immigration laws are separating loved ones from each other. The result of the upcoming U.S. presidential election could change things for them, as one party wishes to adjust the laws and make it easier for families to be reunited. The other party, however, has talked about building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and making immigration more difficult. No matter what party you’re rooting for, you can’t help but feel for the families that have been split up for more than a decade.
The Border Network for Human Rights has set out on a mission to bring these loved ones together, if only for a few minutes at a time. As part of their Hugs Not Walls campaign, they have been reuniting Mexican residents with their family members that live in the U.S.
The border is only open for three minutes, but these heartfelt interactions are helping to make up for lost time.
