Nowadays, it would seem as though you’re going about mothering all wrong if you aren’t constantly photographing every waking moment of your newborn baby’s life.
Andrea Temarantz was in the middle of an impromptu photo shoot with her her four-month-old son Ryder when she noticed something in one picture. If it weren’t for her motherly intuition, Ryder might not have received the necessary treatments that he so desperately needed.
This is the photo that set Temarantz’s motherly instincts into high gear. Notice that white glare in Ryder’s left eye? The mom initially shrugged it off as poor cell phone quality…until she noticed it again in photos taken with her new Nikon camera.
Temarantz decided it was better to be safe than sorry, so she took her boy to get checked out. During the examination, doctors discovered that Ryder was suffering from retinoblastoma, a common form of eye cancer in children, where the cancer begins in the retina of the eye.
