We’ve seen plenty of incredible body art here on FunnyModo, but this new trend is in a league of its own.
And if you’re into nail art, you’ve probably seen one iteration of it before. The technique goes by the name of body marbling, and it took the festival scene by storm earlier this year. That being said, you don’t need to love standing in sweaty crowds for days on end to appreciate the artistry that managed to take over festivals around the country over the summer.
References of this technique date back to the first century in the Sichuan region of southwest China. Although methodology has changed since then, three necessary components remain: water, paint, and surfactant.
Surfactant is a substance that lowers the surface tension between liquids. That helps paint float on top of water. The type of paint used varies based on the surface onto which it will be transferred, but for body application, acrylic is the most common.
Black Light Visuals is the company that really brought body marbling to the festival scene, and the trend caught on like wildfire.
Here’s how it works. Anyone looking for some seriously stunning temporary tattoos dips their arms and legs into vats of water and neon paint. As you can see, the resulting effect is incredible.
Each design is totally different, which is good, since festival-goers are all about looking as unique as possible.
