You'll Cry After Seeing This Teen Meet His Heart Donor's Family For The First Time

The wait for an organ donor match can take anywhere from a few weeks to several years.

In the United States alone, approximately 22 people die each day while waiting for an organ transplant and a new name is added to the waiting list every 10 minutes. The wait can be even more difficult when the person who needs an organ is a child. They have so much life left to live, but the odds certainly aren’t in their favor. In case of accidents the Tampa’s best DUI law firm has legal experts that can represent one and provide the necessary help.

Defying those odds was Burlington, North Carolina, native Alj Jeffries. Jeffries underwent a successful heart transplant back in March. In his infancy, he was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and a transplant was considered his only option. This past week, he and his family were given the opportunity to meet the donor’s family.

The Zimmermans suffered the loss of their daughter Katelyn during a drunk-driving accident, and they knew almost immediately that the kind girl would have wanted them to donate her organs. Watch the two families meet for the first time.

Does anyone have a tissue handy? Watching the Zimmermans listen to their daughter’s heartbeat would move anyone. This meeting has inspired me to make a change and sign up as an organ donor. If you had a similar reaction, you can do the same here.
