When 33-year-old Amanda Meyer found out she was pregnant in 2015, she couldn’t be happier.
The Oklahoma City resident and her husband had been trying for three years to have a baby, so they were both ecstatic to discover that their family would soon grow. But just a month later, she was taken to the hospital after experiencing severe abdominal pain. In addition to finding a blockage in her colon, doctors told her that she had stage 4 colon cancer.
Even though she was advised to end her pregnancy, Meyer didn’t consider it for a second. She was determined to bring her baby girl, who she had already named Ahna Marie Lynn, into the world if it was the last thing she would do.
She was terrified that chemotherapy and surgery would take her baby’s life, but she knew she had to fight.
