Babka is a traditional Polish sweet bread that is baked to celebrate the “rising of Christ” on Easter morning.
Although it is often considered to be a “dessert” bread, one woman is proving that with a bit of modification, babka can be enjoyed all year round.
Instructables user WendyKou deconstructed babka basics and transformed the delicious bread into a pizza-like treat.
If you’re a pizza lover like myself, you’re constantly looking for new, delicious (and easy) ways to enjoy all that cheesy goodness without ordering takeout every night. Thanks to this creative baker, here’s one more option to test out.
She began by rolling out some pre-made pizza dough and lathering on the pizza sauce.
Next, she added a generous sprinkling of mozzarella cheese. Feel free to add pepperoni if you’d like.
Here’s where you get to mix it up — roll your dough lengthwise. This creates layers upon layers of cheesy goodness.
Cut the roll into two smaller rolls (even though you’ll probably want to devour them both).
Next, cut a slit halfway through the top of each roll, leaving about a centimeter of uncut dough on both ends.
Now for the fun part — twist the two rolls together, top with extra cheese, sauce, and pepperoni, and place them in a parchment paper-lined pan for baking.
After 45 minutes in the oven at 385°F, I dare you not to start salivating.
But wait until you cut into this delicious babka pizza — look at all those layers!
Well I certainly know what I’m baking tonight. To try this dish on your own, here’s what you’ll need:
Ingredients:
- 1 pizza dough halved
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (divide into 3/4 cup, 1 tablespoon, and 3 tablespoons)
- 3/4 cup pizza sauce
- 1/4 cup fresh basil
- 16-20 slices of pepperoni (optional)
