When You Melt This Metal Down, You Can Create Beautiful Crystals

Growing up, science class was the one period I dreaded every day.

It’s not like I was bad at it, but I just found the content to be so boring. If there was one topic that did pique my interest, however, it was the unit on rocks and minerals. Our friend CrazyRussianHacker knows all about the beauty of a mineral called bismuth, especially when it’s melted down.

He begins by taking a large block of bismuth and placing it in a saucepan over fairly high heat.

In a matter of minutes, the chemical compound starts to break down and the mineral begins to melt.

When he pours away the remaining liquid, you won’t believe what’s left.

These crystals are absolutely beautiful. That being said, you should only try this at home if you’re not afraid of ruining a few pots and pans.

If you do decide to go through with it, you can snag some bismuth here.
