Since the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world’s largest and most powerful particle collider, went online in 2009, it has been a target of suspicion for the conspiracy theory-minded.
Located in Geneva, Switzerland, and operated by European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the LHC’s purpose is further physics research. However, some see the LHC and CERN as putting Earth at risk with their experiments.
Many conspiracy theories are focused on the science and goal of the LHC, and some people even claim that strange things have even been seen happening on the grounds of the CERN.
Earlier this summer, footage of an alleged human sacrifice on CERN property surfaced online.
As you may have guessed, the “sacrifice” in this footage was faked.

However, the act was staged on CERN’s property after hours and without the organization’s permission. Even though the murder wasn’t legitimate, the video managed to gain quite a bit of traction online. CERN finally had to issue a statement about the video:
“These scenes were filmed on our premises but without official permission or knowledge. CERN does not condone this type of spoof, which can give rise to misunderstandings about the scientific nature of our work.
CERN welcomes every year thousands of scientific users from all over the world and sometimes some of them let their humour go too far. This is what happened on this occasion.”
Sure, human sacrifices may not occur at the LHC, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t create black holes (right?).
