Instructables user travderose knows that taking an RV out on a trip is great, but after recently discovering the awesomeness that is “real” camping, he decided to ditch the luxurious life for a more old-school approach.
Then again, there’s a lot to be said for having some modern conveniences nearby…so, in an effort to have the best of both worlds, he came up with an idea.
He decided to turn the trunk of his Jeep Patriot into the ultimate camping companion. Here’s how he did it…
Knowing this was all the space he had to work with, he decided on a cabinet-like build to optimize the area.
He cut a piece of plywood for a base to work from. Little notches marked where the fridge and drawers would go.
Fear not, though! There’s still access to the under-trunk storage, too.
Next, he built a special cabinet with a cool function…
The bottom portion pulls out to reveal a sink. A portable stove fits under the sink and countertop.
It also extends into a cutting board.
Next to the cabinet, he put more storage bins and an iceless cooler that he plugs into the car’s cigarette lighter.
