What was supposed to be a normal highway traffic stop left this police officer clinging to his life.
Illinois State Trooper Michael Cokins was conducting a routine traffic stop on a busy Chicago highway when things took a near-deadly turn. While talking with a driver along the side of the road, he was struck by a passing vehicle driven by Leslie Thurow. He was thrown into the windshield of the Jeep he had stopped, while Thurow collided with an SUV and eventually hit the concrete median. It was later discovered that Thurow had been drunk during the ordeal.
