This TV Tower In Prague Is Unnecessarily Creepy…Why Are There Babies On It?!

Pretty much every city has that one ugly piece of architecture that most residents love to hate. You know the one I’m talking about. That ultra modern-looking building that’s just completely out of place, or the old monument that’s so run-down it would be easier to replace than fix it. Prague, capital city of the Czech Republic is no exception to this rule.

Except instead of an old run-down building, it’s a modern — but still insanely creepy — television tower.

A bit of a departure from the city’s old-world, European aesthetic, isn’t it? Well, just wait until you get closer to the tower…

Right about now you’re probably thinking, what are those things on the side of the tower’s support beams?

Oh, of course…they’re large, realistic-looking sculptures of babies!

These terrifying sculptures were created as a temporary installation by Czech artist David Černý in 2000.

Somehow, though, the creepy pieces of art were so well received that they returned the following year (2001) and have since become a permanent fixture on the Žižkov Television Tower.

Well, that is utterly freaky. Until now, I’ve always thought of European architecture as superior to America’s. I think I’ll have to revise that opinion.
