I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that when large bodies of water disappear overnight, that’s definitely not a sign of good things to come.
And yet this is something that several South and Central American countries have been dealing with fairly regularly since the start of 2016. First, it was the Atoyac River in Mexico, and now a large lake in Chile vanished…
Up until this week, Lake Riesco was a 5.7-square-mile body of water that attracted tourists to Chile’s Patagonia region.
However, as of May 30, Lake Riesco is no more.

To give you a sense of how crazy this is, before the water disappeared, Lake Riesco had an average depth of 236 feet. That’s a lot of water to just vanish.

The likely culprit for the water disappearance is local seismic activity, as the lake sat near a fault line. However, no significant movement was recorded in the area recently that would explain where the water went.
Of course, in situations like these, there are always those who jump to extraterrestrial explanations for what happened. Could a massive UFO have taken the water?

While a paranormal explanation seems unlikely, scientists and local officials are investigating the occurrence to get to the bottom of this bizarre mystery.
