I generally have a motto that if something is slimy, sticky, and moving, I want absolutely nothing to do with it.
And what these men discovered in a tide pool off the coast of San Pedro, California, just so happens to fit into all three categories. Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like you to meet one seriously nasty-looking sea slug.
That black blob in there? Yeah, that’s an animal that I really wish I never laid eyes on.
These men are much braver than I am. You couldn’t pay me enough to put this giant black sea slug anywhere near my hands. Yuck!
This species is more commonly known as the black sea hare. It gets its name from the small tentacles on its head that makes it look sort of like a cuddly bunny.
Sea hares can grow to be almost three feet in length and can weigh upwards of 30 pounds. Everything is terrible!
They’re black because of their diet, which consists mostly of algae and seaweed (although I still don’t trust it not to chew my limbs off just for fun).
If you’re traveling along the coast of California and happen to run into one of these disgusting creatures, just know that they’re pretty much harmless.
