I will be the first to admit that handyman is not a qualification I would ever put on my resume, nor do I consider myself to be a do-it-yourselfer. That being said, Reddit user riverman2001‘s latest DIY project has me itching to become a bit more hands-on at home.
After completing a Princess Peach-inspired room for his daughter, riverman2001 decided that with the upcoming arrival of his bouncing baby boy, he would try crafting a train-inspired nursery.
The main focal point of the design was a Lehmann Gross Bahn (LGB) train set purchased in 1981 by the Redditor’s father, in hopes that he would one day pass it on to his own son. Come July, he’ll be able to accomplish just that, in the most amazing way ever!
The train set that started it all!
Every room remodel begins with a fresh coat of paint.
He painted and measured out some shelving pieces — the train tracks would be elevated and run over the shelves.
No working train is complete without building a trestle bridge or two…
Of course, he had to test it out to check the fit to ensure everything would move along smoothly.
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!
Trestle Bridge 2.0: bigger, wider, and recut!
This locomotive mural is the perfect addition to any train lover’s paradise.
He installed some LED rope lights — they really added an awesome touch!
These railroad mechanical drawings are a bit grown-up for a baby, but he’ll love them as an adult. (Hopefully.)
And now the finished product…
What a great way to show your children that life’s a journey! Sometimes we might swerve a little off track, but with awesome parents like this, there are only open spaces in front of us.
Just remember, “I think I can, I think I can!”
