In September 2015, Chicago police came across a child’s severed foot in the Garfield Park lagoon.
When a dive team went back to search the lagoon, they found the limbs and head of two-year-old Kyrian Knox. “It was pretty difficult to deal with. Probably one of the most difficult things I’ve had to deal with in my 29 years on the job,” Sergeant Angel Romero told BuzzFeed.
The toddler had been reported missing to the Rockford Police Department in August by his 41-year-old caretaker, Kamel Harris. However, police arrested the same man this year on Tuesday, November 15, for murder after finding Kyrian’s blood in his car. He later told police that his reason for killing the child was because he wouldn’t stop crying after having a bad reaction to milk.
When Kyrian’s mother, 24-year-old Lanisha Knox, needed to train for a new job in Iowa, she left him in the care of Harris and his girlfriend, Danyelle Foggs.
