It’s 2016, and we’ve come a long way in fighting sexism, but every day there’s a new reminder that we still have a long way to go.
The male boss of a Chinese brewing company was recently filmed during a strange and offensive morning ritual. He demands that his female workers line up each morning and kiss him on the mouth.
According to reports, over half of the workforce at this company is made up of women. Most do not want to participate, but they gave in eventually in order to keep their jobs. Two women resigned to avoid taking part.
The boss says he got the idea when visiting an unnamed company in the United States, and that this routine “foster[s] good relationships among colleagues.”
Since the video has gone viral, people have been outraged at the boss. Others, however, have gone so far as to shame the women who engage with him.
“How can these female workers accept this? Do their boyfriends or husbands know?” one person commented on Weibo, China’s version of Twitter, according to Oddity Central. “I want to ask these female workers: Do you have no money? Would you starve if you changed jobs?” another added.
Many YouTube commenters are also comparing the boss to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who infamously remarked, “I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.”

The women who stay at this company may need their jobs to survive, so for their superior to put them in a situation that makes many of them uncomfortable daily is beyond unethical.
