Each year, millions of women and girls across the globe are subjected to abuse and barred from receiving even basic educations.
According to UNESCO, there are 34 million girls of primary school age around the world who are not currently enrolled, and of those girls, upwards of 17 million will never receive an education of any kind. If they never make it through school, they presumably lack the skills they’d need to enter the workforce. This only reinforces oppressive systems that work against women globally.
What’s more is that sexual, physical, and psychological violence are used as weapons against women and girls everywhere. In fact, UN Women estimates that such abuse affects one in three women worldwide. That’s what makes this video so important.
By lip-syncing to a popular song by the Spice Girls, these creators are telling the world what we all really, really want.
