In the world of creepy things that could actually happen to you or people you know, kidnapping is a terrifying (but very real) possibility. While an ordinary kidnapping is heartbreaking, sometimes there can be strange and mysterious circumstances that make you extra suspicious. For example, take the kidnapping of 12-year-old paperboy Johnny Gosch.
On September 5, 1982, while out on his newspaper route, Gosch simply vanished. His wagon, still full of newspapers, was found by the side of the road just two blocks from his house.
Needless to say, his panicked parents attempted to file a police report immediately. However, the West Des Moines department’s reaction time to the news of Gosch’s kidnapping was disappointingly slow.
Eventually a report was filed and police began a thorough, years-long, nationwide search for Gosch. Despite the young boy’s picture appearing on milk cartons across the country, their search turned up no evidence of Gosch or his kidnappers.
Despite the official investigation turning up nothing, Gosch’s mother Noreen claims to know what happened. In 1997, she said Johnny actually visited her in the middle of the night. He was with a strange man whom he looked to for approval every time he was about to speak.
Though they didn’t talk about his kidnapping during their brief meeting, Noreen believes that Johnny was abducted and forced into a secret child prostitution ring for the rich and powerful. However, there is no hard evidence to back up Noreen’s claims.
As of this writing, Johnny is still officially missing. Chances are we’ll probably never know what exactly happened to him after his disappearance…
