Moms Who Nag Raise More Successful Daughters

If you’re a mom with a daughter who says you nag too much, go ahead and give yourself a pat on the back. According to a University of Essex study, nagging moms raise more successful daughters.

Whether you have experience as a mom or a daughter, you probably know just how difficult the relationship can be, especially during the teen years. When I was young, my mom drove me crazy by repeating the same things over and over again. “Don’t forget to study.” “Clean your room.” “Don’t go riding in cars with boys.” As it turns out, all those annoying bits of advice were shaping my future decisions.

In order to determine what kind of impact nagging moms have on their daughters, researcher Ericka G. Rascon-Ramirez followed the lives of 15,000 girls from 2004 to 2010.

While there’s no doubt that dads are important, she found that the girls with nagging mothers grew up to be far more successful than those without.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, girls with mothers who pushed them to excel academically were more likely to graduate high school and go on to a four-year university. Moms everywhere have always known this to be true!
