Jeffrey Dahmer, the Milwaukee Cannibal, is one of the most vicious serial killers. Dahmer hacked and slashed his way through 17 victims before he was finally caught and arrested in 1991. At trial, he was sentenced to life in prison for his crimes. However, not long after arriving at the Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin, Dahmer was attacked and killed by a fellow inmate.
For most people, this is where the story of Jeffrey Dahmer usually ends. However, after his death, the killer’s brain set off a series of bizarre events that few know about.

At the time of his death, Dahmer’s last will and testament stipulated that he be cremated. However, his mother, Joyce, had other plans.

Joyce had her son’s brain removed before the rest of his body was cremated. She hoped to deliver it to researchers so they could determine what (if any) biological factors caused Dahmer’s murderous behavior.
Unfortunately for Joyce, Dahmer’s father Lionel disagreed with her plans and sued to stop them. A little over a year after Dahmer’s death, a judge found in favor of Lionel and order the brain cremated.

While it’s not much of a story (at least compared to everything else Dahmer did during his life), it is nonetheless part of Dahmer’s journey. I wonder what they would have found inside that brain…

In many ways Dahmer was a true psychopath. Something tells me that researchers wouldn’t have been able to get much out of the brain if they had been able to study it.
