If you’re lucky, you’ll never have to think about Parkinson’s disease.
Sadly, life doesn’t work like that and there’s a chance that one day, you or someone you love will be afflicted by it. Parkinson’s used to be as close to a death sentence as you could get. It’s a neurological disease that eats away at your motor functions until it kills you.
Until very recently, there wasn’t much anyone could do to treat the disease or halt its progress. However, in the last decade, a number of viable treatment options have become available to the average person. One man who has taken advantage of those treatments to keep his quality of life is a New Zealander named Andrew Johnson. Johnson was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson‘s in 2009.
Between 2012 and 2013, Johnson underwent surgery to implant a device in his brain to control his symptoms.

Now that is amazing. At no other time in the history of mankind would something like this be even remotely possible. It’s an amazing time to be alive.
