Did You Know That There's A Secret Room In Mount Rushmore?

If you ever wanted the movie “National Treasure” to be real, I’m about to make your dreams come true.

In the Black Hills of South Dakota sits one of the most iconic monuments in America. Carved into the side of the mountain, the glorious Mount Rushmore is visited by thousands of people from across the country and around the world year after year, and for good reason. It is truly a sight to behold. But here’s something you might not know about this American treasure.

There’s a secret room tucked away behind Lincoln’s head.

The vision of the monument’s designer, Gutzon Borglum, the room was designed to hold copies of America’s most sacred documents.

Sadly, the room wasn’t completed until decades after he died.

Inside is a wooden box holding the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, Borglum’s biography, and short descriptions of each president featured on the monument.

The room is sealed with a 1,200-pound granite slab for protection.

Although the passageway doesn’t completely reflect Borglum’s vision because it’s missing some ornamental designs, he can rest easy knowing that the aliens that visit our planet 10,000 years from now will know who Teddy Roosevelt was.

I feel like we need to get Nicolas Cage to Rushmore right now! This is movie material.
