Apparently, The FBI Nearly Shut Down Production Of 'The X-Files' For Odd Reasons

Anyone who was alive in the 1990s remembers “The X-Files” in some shape or form. I remember being terrified of it as a child, but also being unable to look away every time I caught an episode on TV. Regardless of your feelings on the series, there’s no doubt that it was a revolutionary show for its time. That’s what makes it all the more terrifying that the show itself almost didn’t get made thanks to FBI intervention.

Back in the early 1990s, when series creator Chris Carter (pictured below) was working on the pilot script, he contacted the FBI to do a little bit of research.

At the time, the FBI didn’t even bother to return his phone calls…until they were only a few weeks out from airing the pilot.

“Then, as we got close to airing, the FBI called and said, ‘Who are you and what are you doing?’ And for a second, I thought it was going to be the long arm of the law coming in to shut me down,” recalled Carter during an interview with the Huffington Post earlier this year.

While the FBI didn’t shut down the show, that wasn’t the only mysterious thing that happened to Carter during its run.

“I had someone come up to me during the original run who said they worked in some high place in a secret government agency,” he continued. “[They] said that we were very close to the truth.”

Well, that is freaky as hell. I’m willing to bet the FBI had someone assigned to watch every episode as it aired to make sure they didn’t get too close to the truth themselves. Then again, maybe I’m just being paranoid.
