With all of the devastating floods in Louisiana right now, it would be so easy for everyone there to only focus on helping themselves — and who could blame them?
The raging waters are so dangerous that it’s all some people can do just to survive, let alone think about anyone else. But like we’ve seen in similar situations, people often surprise us with their bravery and willingness to work together to help others — including animals — in need.
Get ready to be completely inspired by the heroes in Louisiana who risked drowning to save helpless animals.
Luckily for this pup, two men found him in Baker and took him aboard their boat.
This kind-hearted man chose to wade through the waters to save his sheep.
And this wonderful pair managed to rescue 54 chickens, a peacock, and a turkey.
To the delight of these dogs, a man with an inflatable mattress showed up just in time.

Officers from the Louisiana State Animal Response Team (LSART) helped one woman rescue the cats in her sanctuary.
Unfortunately, the Tangi Humane Society in Hammond became flooded with four feet of water.
But luckily, the St. Tammany Humane Society in Covington took 22 of their dogs and safely transported them to their own shelter.
Denham Springs Animal Shelter was also flooded, but staff and volunteers worked tirelessly together to transport as many of their animals as they could to other shelters via boat.
In addition to saving over 3,000 people, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has rescued 603 animals from the floods.
