Life moves quickly. Weeks are filled with deadlines and meetings and emails — so filled, in fact, that days go by before we realize that we haven’t talked to our parents in a while.
We haven’t talked to our friends and loved ones in forever because everything is way too hectic to really sit and listen to anyone who isn’t directly in front of us. We don’t mean to do it. We don’t mean to downplay or ignore people’s struggles, but sometimes everything is blocked out by the craziness of day-to-day-life.
As it turns out, however, the simple act of listening can change and even save lives. The fact of the matter is that when people don’t feel heard, they don’t feel seen. They think, “Maybe my story isn’t worth listening to.” At best, that feeling is frustrating and at worst, it’s deadly. That’s why volunteers from Urban Confessional started an initiative to make sure that everyone’s story gets told.
