When people say Australia is crawling with horrible animals and insects that are just waiting for the chance to pounce and kill you, they are, of course, exaggerating.
However, that exaggeration stems from the fact that there are quite a few killer species that call Australia home, and when they decide to strike…well, the results can be unpleasant. Take, for example, the story of one young man who recently suffered a redback spider bite. Let’s just say that this thing hit him where it really hurts.
The redback spider is a poisonous arachnid that is closely related to the black widow. Even though there is an effective anti-venom available, experiencing a bite from one of these critters still hurts like hell.

So what’s worse than being bitten by a redback spider? Being bitten on the penis by a redback spider while using a port-a-potty because nature just wants to add insult to injury.

A 21-year-old construction worker in Sydney was rushed to the nearest hospital last week for exactly that. There, doctors had to administer a dose of anti-venom to save his life (and member).

These bites are known for causing severe pain, sweating, and nausea. After the anti-venom was administered, the man was discharged in stable condition.

I really do want to visit Australia because it seems like a gorgeous land full of awesome people, but stories like this one honestly make me think twice.
