As I’m sure you know by now, we here at FunnyModo are no strangers to stories of animals being saved from terrible abuse.
But after coming across this poor pup’s story, we had to agree with his rescuers when they said that it is one of the most horrific cases of animal abuse you can find online.
Before you read any further, be aware of the fact that the photos you’re about to see are very graphic.
Augustus had likely lived his whole life without any care or affection when somebody found him walking through the streets of Chicago. He was completely emaciated, was missing chunks of fur and skin, and his body was covered with open wounds.
After police were notified, they quickly contacted Trio Animal Foundation (TAF), an organization that gives medical care to homeless pets. They immediately came and took Augustus to an emergency vet.
The medical team in the intensive care unit quickly determined that the starvation was beginning to affect his organs and that he was most likely suffering from chemical burns.
They also found an open gunshot wound on his back foot.
And he had an awful, infected sore that was caused by constant pressure on his backside.
They gave him IV fluids, antibiotics, and pain medications right away and started special treatments for his burned skin and sores.
In addition to giving him some much-needed food, they gave him the love and tenderness that he was so wrongly denied up to that point.
Now he is beginning to show improvements and is becoming more alert and friendly, but he has a long way to go before he’s completely out of the woods.
This poor little guy has suffered through more than most of us will experience in a lifetime.
And he really needs a high calorie supplement for dogs to get him back to his normal weight. If you’ve ever thought about donating to a cause, now would be the best time to do it. You can donate directly to this dog’s care here by writing his name in the provided box. You can also follow his story by visiting TAF’s Facebook page.
We all wish Augustus the best and hope for a full and speedy recovery.
