This Superintendent's Amazing Work Should Be The Standard In Schools Nationwide

Meet Dr. Tiffany Anderson, Superintendent of the Jennings School District.

Jennings is a predominantly Black town in Missouri, where a majority of the population lives below the poverty line.

Every day, Dr. Anderson travels four hours to school.

She even serves as a crossing guard when students arrive.

She provides warm coats and hot chocolate for kiddos who need a little pick-me-up.

Many had written off the Jennings School District, but that didn’t stop Anderson from wanting to make a change for the better.

With the help of grants and partnerships, Anderson was able to balance the school district’s budget and launch a college prep program.

She also brought back arts education.

She began her engagement outside of academics and listened to community concerns. She was able to open up a food pantry. She’s given 8,000 pounds of food per month to hand out to community members.

Anderson also took an interest in healthcare. Each school is equipped with a few mental health therapists. Thanks to a partnership with Washington University, pediatricians are also employed.

She even introduced a program to support teen moms as they try to balance continuing education with motherhood.

The Jennings School District has become fully accredited in just under four years. They are now meeting 81 percent of the state benchmarks for education.
