More than 62 percent of women in Morocco have suffered from gender-based violence.
About 55 percent of these women have also become victims of domestic violence at least one point in their lives. It goes without saying that this is a serious problem that needs to be addressed by the North African country, but one of its television channels has done so in the worst way possible.
Channel 2M recently featured a makeup tutorial, but nothing about it was fun or appropriate. In the video, a woman gives tips on how to conceal bruises and other injuries sustained from physical abuse as if it is an acceptable part of everyday life. Ironically enough, it ran only a few days before the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
“Make sure to use loose powder to fix the makeup, so if you have to work throughout the day, the bruises don’t show,” she says at the end.
