Unlucky EMS Workers Discover A Human Heart In A Plastic Bag…So Gross

If you’re out for a stroll through your neighborhood, what’s the absolute last thing you’d expect to come across? How about a human heart in a Ziploc bag? It sounds completely bizarre, but that’s the exact scenario that police in Norwalk, Ohio, have been trying to sort out.

Back in late August, an EMS crew idling at a gas station on Milan Avenue spotted the lone organ sealed in a bag.

At the time it was found, the heart was actually in pretty decent condition and had only recently started to decompose. This led investigators to conclude that it was likely frozen before making its way to the field.

This week, after extensive testing, the county corner concluded that the heart in the bag was human. While it might seem like a remnant of one seriously heinous crime, police aren’t too sure.

“We don’t have a body that we’re missing a heart from. I guess it’s an unusual occurrence, is what you would say. It’s what’s listed on our report. We hope to be able to classify it as something else and close this out,” Sgt. Jim Fulton of the Norwalk Police Department told the press.

My guess is that the discarded heart was the result of a back-alley transplant gone wrong. Then again, I do have an overactive imagination.
