Have you ever wondered what would happen if the sun just vanished?

I’m sure that if you have, you’ve probably come to the conclusion that it wouldn’t be anything good — and you’d definitely be right.

The people over at The Solar Centre were curious about this exact thing, so they created a slightly terrifying infographic detailing how the solar system and Earth would be affected over time without that great big ball in the sky.

1. After eight minutes, the planets would stop orbiting because there would no longer be a gravitational pull from the sun. They would all just travel in a straight line through space.

2. One minute later, we’d all be engulfed in darkness.

3. At this time, the stars would still be visible, but without the sun illuminating the moon, we’d never see it again.
