Cutting A Log Into Pieces Never Seemed Like A Good Use Of Time…Until Now

When it comes to really adding some personality to a room, you probably first think of your furniture or art. Rarely does a lamp come to mind when you want to make a big impact…then again, you haven’t seen this lamp!

If you’re a lover of the outdoors, this cool DIY project will definitely get your green thumb tingling.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A log (this one is from an apple tree and it’s almost 16 inches long)
  • A piece of Plexiglass tube (11.8″ long, 1.5″ wide)
  • Wood glue
  • Cellulose-based varnish
  • LED light
  • Band saw
  • Hammer
  • Nail
  • Drill
  • Sanding machine

First, he cut the log with a bandsaw. Each piece was the same thickness, coming in at around 0.75 inches.

He found the center point and cut a hole with the driller.

In an effort to create smooth, even surfaces, he sanded everything down.

He reinforced the wood with some glue to prevent cracks.

For a beautiful shine, he added two to three coats of varnish.

Finally, he strung the slices together onto the Plexi tube (they’ll stay in place without any glue). The finishing touch was the LED light which was guided down into the tube.

How beautiful is that?
