By Putting Glasses On The Floor, They Proved A Hilarious Point About Modern Art

My dad took me and my grandmother on a day trip to New York City a few years back, and while we were there, we decided to pop into the Guggenheim Museum to see what was happening in the art scene.

Since my dad and I are artists ourselves, you can imagine our confusion when we walked up the space’s signature spiral ramp and encountered what some call “art” in the form of broken bottles sitting on benches and, best of all, a black canvas that apparently sold for millions at one point because humans are hopeless creatures. Needless to say, I have a pretty complicated relationship with modern art.

While we could sit here and argue about what constitutes the creation of art all day, what these guys did with a pair of glasses at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is pretty telling.

Since Twitter users @TJCruda and @k_vinnnn were less than impressed by what the collection had to offer, they decided to conduct an experiment.

They put a pair of glasses on the floor to see what would happen. Let’s just say that what they saw will really satisfy anyone who hates pretentiousness.

That’s right, folks! The people in this joint seriously thought they were looking at art.

The mock concentration was so, so real.

Next time someone tells me a paint splatter or a discarded shoe is high art, I’m going to hand them laminated prints of these pictures.

This is obviously a mic drop of the best kind.

According to @k_vinnn, the most embarrassing part (for them, at least) was going back and picking the glasses up off the floor. All in all, I’m sure they left the museum that day with stomachs that hurt from laughing and some newfound disdain for the human race. Sounds about right.
